The program aims to develop core competencies in the fields of information security management, application security, and computer networks security. Students will have the opportunity of learning the technical aspects of information security by understanding current threats and vulnerabilities and examining ways of developing effective countermeasures. In order to cater for wide range of professional and academic interests, students have the option of selecting their course work according to their specific needs.

The overall program objective are:

  • To fulfill the growing national need of well trained professionals to work in a wide range of roles to protect Information Systems in all types of organizations, including research and academia.
  • To contribute towards need of protecting national information infrastructure from all kinds of threats.
  • To play an effective role in international efforts to make the cyberspace safe, secure and reliable for the national and international communities.

Program Structure

The MS Information Security program is designed to fulfill the needs of two distinct classes of individuals: (1) professionals wishing to pursue a professional career in the field of information security, and (2) candidates wishing to prepare themselves for doctoral level study and embark on a research based career. Students enrolled in the MS (Information Security) program are required to complete minimum 33 credit hours of course/research work. Students are required to take 09 credit hours (typically 3 courses) of core courses.Core courses are carefully designed to cover the breadth of information security theory and practice. Furthermore, students are required to take another 15 credit hours (typically 5 courses) of elective courses.These courses can be selected based on the student’s interest, area of specialization they wish to follow and their professional needs. Elective courses are most often offered in following three streams of study.
