Program Overview

There is a long tradition of the study of English Literature in the Indo-Pak subcontinent. Nevertheless, it must be admitted that it has some pitfalls. We cannot separate literature from its culture and values of life. This being so, the impressionable mind is likely to be infected with the baneful philosophies of the west. To counter this, the teaching program is so organized that the teachers, whenever they come across anything repugnant to our values, present Islamic perspective as well and thus show how spurious the western philosophical precepts are. Another distinctive feature of this department is that we have introduced “Remedial English Language Programme” (RELP), the purpose of which is to develop the writing skill of students and how to write the answers of literature. The department has undertaken an additional responsibility on itself for the benefit of students. It must be realized that most of the students fail because of their poor language competence. No University in Pakistan has taken any initiative in this direction.
