Riphah International University Holds its 11th Convocation in Islamabad
Degrees, gold medals and awards were conferred upon as many as 1055 graduates of Riphah International University in the 11th Convocation held today at Convention Centre Islamabad. These graduates belong to various faculties including Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Computing, Social Sciences and Humanities, Basic Sciences and Media Sciences. As many as 10198 students are now alumni members of the university.
17 Zulfiqar Gold Medals and 50 Chancellor Gold Medals were awarded to the graduates and post graduates for obtaining top positions in the examinations and securing distinction for their best performance in the academic field in various disciplines.
President of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, who is also the patron in-chief of the University, was the Chief Guest of Convocation while Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Sun Weidong was the guest of honor. Other than that Ambassadors of Mauritius and Oman were also present at the occasion.
Addressing to the convocation President Mamnoon Hussain congratulated the students and their parents and teachers for stepping into practical life after a successful academic career. He said it is heartening for me to note that Higher Education Commission has placed Riphah International University at 2nd Position in its ranking of general category private sector universities. The President paid rich tributes to Founder Chancellor (Late) Maj. Gen. (R) Muhammad Zulfiqar Ali Khan for his vision and services to the nation establishing a medical college in 1996 which has now attained the status of a full-fledged university.
President said that this is an era of knowledge and scientific development and it requires creative problem solving approach. Universities and institutes of higher learning therefore need to become hub of generating innovative ideas and inventions as they play pivotal role in the socio-economic development of any society. He said that as a nation we are facing multi-facet challenges, among which few are the most complex ones such as terrorism, extremism, societal discrimination, social prejudice and corruption. Although government is trying to overcome these issues but in my personal opinion it’s the education which can resolve these issues, he added. He emphasized that its only value based quality education which can help us to improve our future.
President said that with the introduction of economic projects such as China Pakistan Economic Corridor, Pakistan is now heading towards an era of great development and prosperity. He said that as a nation we should learn from the China’s economic practices and should make every effort to make the country great again. He announced that recently Russia and few other countries have shown interest in joining Pakistan’s economic corridor project.
President Mamnoon Hussain was pleased to learn that Riphah is the only university where a course named “Life & Living” based on the Islamic ethical values, was introduced for an enduring nourishment and development of both students and faculty members. He said that this step is in accordance with the ideology laid by Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that he was pleased to learn about the holding of 11th Convocation of Riphah International University. He said it’s been more than a decade now, and Riphah has progressively come forward in terms of achieving distinction in education and research with 12th place in Public and Private sector universities in general category as per Pakistan Rankings of Higher Education Institutions 2015. He said, he is confident that the University will continue its quest for excellence in academics and research, and progressively foster linkages with industry and corporate world, promote innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization, engage with community and play an active role in building society.
Addressing to the convocation Pro-Chancellor Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan, congratulated graduating students and prayed to Allah S.W.T. for a bright and successful career for them. He said, this was first convocation without presence of our Founding Chancellor, late Maj. Gen. Muhammad Zulfiqar Ali Khan, who was the moving spirit behind the realization of his dream in the form of Riphah International University. He prayed that may Allah S.W.T. reward him best for his sincere services to the Muslim Ummah.
He said this year’s theme, to excel and lead in the Value Based Quality Education, reminds all of us of our basic obligation of building an educated Pakistan. We are a nation with rich human resource. Over 67% of our population consists of youth. He added that a country with this great resource has an excellent potential of becoming a leader in knowledge, scientific development and new technologies.
The Pro-Chancellor said, Riphah is committed to build strong academic base of its students with ethical conduct and behavior and dynamic role in building our society and state as visualized by the Father of the Nation Qu’aid-e- Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmed, in his report, highlighted the achievements and future plans of the university. He said that today University is offering more than 100 programs offered at 8 faculties. He apprised the audience that in year 2016 the university focused on value based quality education and fostering an environment of research and development. He hoped the faculty and management of the university will continue their endeavor to make it an exemplary institution for others.
