Memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Riphah International University and Naeem Ahmad Subhani, Vice President of Pakistan chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) at Rawalpindi on 14th April 2017.
Purpose of MOU is to promote Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) by conducting OHS awareness seminars for students and faculty members, run OHS certification courses and assist Riphah management in the establishment of OHS department to run diploma and Degree level programs which is very much required to produce/develop OHS professionals to assist in sustainable development of Pakistan in years to come.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlines the intent of Pakistan chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers and Riphah International University to work together towards the common objective of promoting Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) practices within Riphah and across the country through advocacy, education, knowledge sharing and information dissemination.
ASSE is a global association of and premier leader for Health, Safety and Environment professionals, dedicated to the professional advancement of its members and the profession. ASSE has been working since 1911 with around 40000 members globally. Pakistan chapter has recently been awarded Charter to work independently for the promotion of HSE in Pakistan.
The purpose of this MOU is to facilitate collaboration between ASSE Pakistan and Riphah in matters of common interest and hopefully this will set an example for private sector institutions in Pakistan. Public sector institutions shall be approached through Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Engineering Council. This eventually will help promote safety culture in the country.
