Riphah International University Jointly organizes 18th Ottawa and 5th ICME Int’l Conferences on Medical Education 2018 at Abu Dhabi, UAE
Riphah International University Pakistan Jointly organized International Conference on Medical Education with Ottawa Conference and RAK College of Dental Sciences (RAKCODS), UAE with the partnership of the institutions of UAE, UAE University, Gulf Medical University and RAK Medical and Health Sciences University. The event has been held with the support of, Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, Emirates Nursing Association, University of Sharjah and CLIQ (Centre of Excellence in Leadership and Quality) at RAKCODS, UAE. The event is endorsed by Ministry of Health and Prevention, United Arab Emirates. This is the 18th Ottawa Conference and 5th International Conference on Medical Education (ICME 2018).
Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Cabinet Member, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development was the chief guest at the inaugural session held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center (ADNEC), Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The event is the largest ever gathering in the United Arab Emirates in the field of Medical Education. Over 1000 foreign delegates from more than 56 countries spanning from New Zealand in the East to Argentina in the West and Canada in the North to South Africa in the south. Almost all GCC countries actively participated in the conference.
The Ottawa Conference has become synonymous with the state of the art in the assessment of competence in medicine and the healthcare professions, bringing together both experts and those new to the area, facilitating networking and international collaboration. International Conference on Medical Education (ICME) is a biennially event started in 2009 to provide a credible platform for interaction between world leading Medical Educationalists and those from countries on the path of introducing reforms in Medical Education in their countries. The conference covers all aspects of Medical Education. It particularly emphasizes Health Profession Education in order to provide an opportunity to identify international standards and to apply these in developing countries in the local context.
The programme comprised of two days of pre-conference courses and workshops and two and a half days of oral and poster presentations. There were 26 pre-conference workshops and four courses including famous FAME and ESME course. The joint conference was enriched with 15 keynote speakers, of whom four are winners of the most prestigious Kerolinska Prize for Research in Medical Education. There were 4 plenary sessions, ten symposia, six ‘what the experts say’ session and over 60 sessions of oral presentations, conference workshops, and poster presentations. The conference had 29 CME credit hours from EACCME - European Accreditation Council on CME.
