Doctor of Physical Therapy

Eligibility: FSc (Pre Med)/A Levels with 50% aggregate marks or equivalent from any recognised Board in Pakistan or Abroad

Riphah Institute of Physical Therapy(RIPT)

WELLCOME to the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Riphah Institute of Physical Therapy which is a component part of Riphah International University, Islamabad. RIPT is a pioneer of Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in Pakistan. The institute offers five years entry level doctor of Physical therapy program(DPT) and two years post graduate transitional doctor of Physical therapy program Transitaional Doctor of Physical Therapy .

Goals of the Program:

The purposes of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program are to prepare physical therapists who:

1. Are primary providers of physical therapy care.

2. Serve as responsible members in the professional community and are willing and able to assume leadership roles in the communities they serve.

3. Identify researchable problems, advocate and participate in research, and incorporate research findings into clinical practice.

4. Understand and place in context the social, economic and cultural issues of practice and effectively advocate for changes in policy

5. Correlate theory with practice and think creatively about, react to, adapt or shape new practice environments.

6. Participate in and provide education for communities, patients, peers, students and others. physical therapists who can work independently in the field of rehabilitation medicine.

Objectives of the DPT Program:

Graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will,

1. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences relevant to physical therapy, both in their fundamental context and in their application to the discipline of physical therapy.

2. Understand, correlate and apply theoretical foundations of knowledge to the practice of physical therapy; evaluate and clarify new or evolving theory relevant to physical therapy.

3. Demonstrate the behaviors of the scholarly clinician by developing and utilizing the process of critical thinking and inquiry, particularly focused on the improvement of the practice of physical therapy and the delivery of health care.

4. Engage in reflective practice through sound clinical decision making, critical self-assessment and commitment to lifelong learning.

5. Demonstrate mastery of entry level professional clinical skills. Provision of these services is based on the best available evidence and includes physical therapy. examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, prevention activities, wellness initiatives and appropriate health care utilization.

6. Are prepared to influence the development human health care regulations and policies that are consistent with the needs of the patient and of society.

7. Demonstrate leadership, management, and communication skills to effectively participate in physical therapy practice and the health care team.

8. Incorporate and demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviors to all persons.

9. Demonstrate the professional and social skills to adapt to changing health care environments to effectively provide physical therapy care.

10. Are prepared to contribute to the evolution of the physical therapy profession.

Career scope

*. Physical therapists are highly in demand due to the lack of trained professionals nationally and internationally.

*. Physical therapists are granted 17grade in Govt. sector or equivalent in the private Sector.

*. They can become Asst. Professors and professors in the teaching field.

*. They can run their independent practice/ clinics.

Undergraduate Admission

A candidate seeking admission in Bachelor's program in the Faculty of Computing must fulfil the following requirements:

He/She should pass the Intermediate (F.Sc/FA/ICS) or equivalent examination securing at least 60% marks in aggregate of any Board of Intermediate / Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan or abroad.

Selection

Admissions to candidates shall be granted strictly in accordance with merit which shall be determined on the basis of academic record, entry test and interview. Weightage for calculating the merit shall be as under: FSc (60%) Entry Test/ Interview (40%)

Admission Procedure

The Faculty will have admissions twice a year, one in Spring and one in Fall. A complete application package is to be submitted by every candidate within the due date as mentioned in the advertisement. Late applications will not be entertained. After receiving the applications, the entry test will be held according to the date, time and place as intimated by postal mail to the applicants. The successful candidates will further be informed of their results to follow the necessary procedure. The candidates are required to attach the copies of following documents along with the application forms.
* Recent 4 passport size colour photograph
* Matriculation / Senior Cambridge or equivalent Certificate
* Detailed Marks Certificate of Intermediate or equivalent
* Provisional / Character Certificate of the college/institution last attended
* Bachelors / Masters Detailed Marks Sheet
* National Identity Card / B Form
* An undertaking by students’ parent/guardian

One of the distinct features of FC is its need based curriculum corresponding and responding to the ground needs and requirements of the industry. The curriculum of the faculty has been scrupulously designed in line with the international standards set by IEEE, ACM, AIIP, AIS etc.

Note:

The nature of undertaking is related to the requirement of the University. No application for admission will be considered unless fully and completely made out on the prescribed form by the candidate in his/her own hand writing.

Degree Requirements

The candidates are required to get pass grades in all the courses offered in a semester with SGPA at least of 2.00 or more, and to pass all the semesters of the degree program, with at least CGPA 2.00 or more besides all recommendations of HEC for computing disciplines.

Graduate Admission

The Faculty is offering Bachelor of Science (BS) programs at undergraduate level in the field of Computing in following disciplines:

Admission

BS (CS), BS (SE), BS (IT), MCS, MSc
1. BS (SE/CS/IT) 4 years degree program (minimum 130 credit hours)
2. CGPA >= 2.0
OR
1. Computer Science conversion course two years degree program referred to as MCS or M.Sc. (Computer Science)
2. CGPA >= 2.0
OR
1. BCS 3-year program degree applicants may be provisionally admitted in the MS (SE) program. Candidates will be required to take additional courses to complete credit hour requirement of min. 120 before being formally enrolled in the MS (SE) program.
2. CGPA >= 2.0

Under eligibility criteria 1-3 the faculty may recommend additional deficiency courses, from the BS (SE) curriculum, considering the deficiency of the candidates.

Degree Requirements

A dynamic and dedicated teaching faculty should awaken in its student's inquisitiveness towards more learning and a keen consciousness of their manifold relations with the society and environment. With this vision and insight, the Faculty has engaged a highly qualified, experienced and eminent teaching staff of national and international repute. The faculty members in close coordination and collaboration with teaching fellows endeavor to provide students with par excellent knowledge in the various disciplines of Information Technology (IT) and Computer Sciences (CS). At present the student faculty ratio is 1:11 .

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T) is a FIVE years degree program. It comprises five professional years
1. First Professional 2. Second Professional 3. Third Professional 4. Fourth Professional 5. Final professional

Curriculum is divided into approximate hours to cover during five years of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Each year is sub-divided into two semesters six months each. There are terminal examinations at the end of each semester. One year Clinical Clerkship is Mandatory for every graduate.
