 Dean, Faculty of Computing Mr. Saad Naeem Zafar

Mr. Saad Zafar has extensive teaching experience in the field of Software Engineering and Information Technology.His area of specialization is Requirements Engineering with a focus on Security and Safety engineering. His research focuses on development of effective methodology for designing safe, secure and reliable software. He has published his research results at a number of international forums. His diverse work experience also includes over eighteen years of software engineering and information technology management.

Introduction

The Faculty of Computing is a constituent unit of International University. Initially, it started working as Institute of Informatics (RII) and offered Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Technology in affiliation with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila. After the charter given to the University in the year 2002, the Faculty started offering its own degree program at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Aims And Objectives

It is committed to generating, disseminating and preserving knowledge by providing its students with an education that combines rigorous academic study, excitement of discovery and the support and stimulation of a diverse campus community. It also ensures to produce graduates with sound technical and professional knowledge as well as a conscious understanding and observance of Islamic ethical norms.

Research Activities

Currently a number of research programmes are active in the Faculty of Computing. The following research groups have been established:

Data Mining

Members: Dr. Abdul Aziz, Mr. Saleem Anwar and Mr. Syed Yasser Arafat
Research Areas: High-dimensional data cube and data analysis; Pattern compression approximation, and usage; Data mining in health information systems; and Software data mining.

Requirements Engineering

Members: Mr. Saad Naeem Zafar, Dr. Iftikhar Azim Niaz, Mr. Shahzad Rafique, Mr. Arif Mushtaq, Mr. Musharif Ahmed, and Ms. Sumera Saleem
Research Areas: Modeling complex systems; Formal Verification; Requirements Validation; Simulation; Bridging gap between formal and informal requirements; Requirements Traceability; and Automated Code Generation.

Information Systems & Bio-Informatics

Members: Mr. Saad Naeem Zafar, Dr. Iftikhar Azim Niaz, Mr. Muhammad Sabir Qamar, Mr. Abdul Mateen
Research Area: Indigenous development of bio-medical devices, development of cost-effective health information solutions in the socio-economic environment of Pakistan.

Human Computer Interaction

Members: Dr. Iftikhar Azim Niaz, Mr. Muhammad Sabir Qamar, Mr. Musharif Ahmed, Mr. Umar Rashid
Research Areas: Search, access, and information management, the display of complex data and information, user modeling and activity recognition, efficient input and interaction, the role of automation and the coupling of intelligent systems with direct manipulation.

Computer Networks

Members: Dr. Iftikhar Azim Niaz, Mr. Muhammad Zubair, Mr. Fazl-e-Hadi, Mr. Atif Naseer
Research Areas: Designing and developing new protocols in the area of Ad-Hoc, Sensor and Mesh Networks; Simulation of newly design protocols; Optimization of currently existing technology.
